Getting them to stay where you want them to can be an issue.
The following may help:
- Having located the position where you want to lay the buoy first set the anchor.
- Lower the anchor over the side to find the bottom (there is less weight once the chain is on the bottom)
- If you have lots of excess rope its need to be tied off before you put the buoy over the side.
- Folding the excess rope onto large loops about 2-foot-long (0.5m) loop the excess rope is quickly shortened. Wrapping the top tail around the loops 3 or 4 times, passing it through the loops and looping the top tail over the top will secure the excess loops of rope.
- You can then lay the buoy over the side knowing it will be secure and where you want it.
Finally see the diagrams which hopefully will help to explain the wording.
